Public Health and Medicine in Europe

Develop a deeper understanding of Europe’s public health policies as well as medical practice and achievements in this study abroad program at Maastricht University (UM). It starts with a two-week introduction, which includes CES services, the Berlin Study Trip, a tour of Maastricht and the surrounding area, UM orientation, a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) workshop, a cultural awareness lecture, and integration into Dutch student life.

Europeans enjoy some of the highest quality and most affordable health care in the world. However, health systems in Europe are under pressure due to an aging population, innovations, and a demand for more citizen-centered services. During this program, students examine the different attitudes to health in various European countries and compare their healthcare systems with the market-driven system of the United States. They also deepen their knowledge of genetics, immunology, or biology; gain insight into contemporary European health issues; and develop practical medical skills.
