HAILEY, Idaho (CBS 2) — The Bureau of Land Management has closed about 128,000 acres of public lands in Blaine County due to the ongoing Sharps Fire.
The closure goes into effect immediately.
“The BLM works to promote public and firefighter safety—the weather conditions and fire behavior on the Sharps fire simply call for restricting visitors to this area for the time-being,” said Shoshone Field Manager Codie Martin.
The affected areas include lands east of Highway 75, south of East Fork Road and then south of the Sawtooth National Forest boundary, west of Fish Creek Road and north of Highway 20 and east of Gannett Road.
The Sharps Fire, which started July 29 after someone fired at an exploding target, has scorched nearly 54,000 acres and is burning grass and timber.
It's burning six miles east of Bellevue and a total of 320 crew members are battling the blaze. At last check, it's 29 percent contained.
A community meeting will be held in Hailey at Community Campus, 1050 Fox Acres Road, Hailey, Idaho.
Pre-Evacuation Notices
The pre-evacuation notices are for residents located north and east of the intersection of Buttercup Road and Myrtle Street in Hailey. This extends north to East Fork Rd., and includes all residents on the east side of Highway 75 including:
Old Cutters/Butter Cup Sub
South Hiawatha
North Hiawatha
Red Devil
Indian Creek
Valley Club
Ohio Gulch

All of East Fork
If you live in any of these areas you need to start preparing for evacuation now. Begin moving large animals/livestock now. This is a preparedness measure to avoid getting caught trying to move livestock and trailers in smoke, fire or road congestion. You also should organize essential documents or valuables, medications, pets, and family members to have everything in a place to grab and go if it becomes necessary.
